Intercontinental Abu Dhabi Continental

Working at the Intercontinental Abu Dhabi Continental means being in the middle of a lot of noise and people from everywhere. The hotel is big and sometimes it feels like a maze if you are new. We spend our days walking through the lobby or checking on things in the guest areas. The sun in the U A E is no joke so the air conditioning is our best friend most of the year. It is a lot of standing and talking to people who are just arriving from the airport. They are usually tired and just want their keys or some food. We don't do things in a very formal way behind the scenes. We just try to get the bags moved and the rooms ready as fast as we can. It gets very busy during the holidays when everyone wants to stay near the water. We see a lot of different faces and hear all kinds of languages every single day. The staff is just a group of regular people trying to make sure the place doesn't fall apart during the lunch rush. It is hard work and the hours can be long especially on weekends. Sometimes the computers slow down or the kitchen gets backed up but we just keep going. It is a big building in Abu Dhabi but at the end of the day it is just about making sure people have a place to sleep and something to eat while they are away from home.
