Indian Navy

Living and working out of New Navy Nagar in Colaba is a bit different from the rest of Mumbai. I’m at Flat R8/1B, and it’s part of the whole Indian Navy setup here. Manoj Kumar is the name on the door, but this place is really about the life we lead in this corner of the city. The air feels a bit saltier here because we are so close to the water. It’s a secure area, so it’s quiet and orderly, which is a nice change from the chaos of the main roads. We don’t have a typical corporate profile because we are part of something much bigger than just a business. The buildings are old but sturdy, and there are always trees around, which you don't see much in the city center. Most days are spent following the routines that have been in place for years. We handle our duties, look after the quarters, and make sure everything is ship-shape, as they say. People think it’s all very strict, and it is, but there is a community feeling here that you don't get elsewhere. You see the same faces every morning at the gate or the local stores. It’s not a place for outsiders to just wander through, but for us, it’s where we live our lives and serve. It’s practical, disciplined, and very much tucked away at the tip of the island.
