If you ever find yourself on Pt M.M. Malviya Road in Tardeo, you might notice the Popular Press Building. We are on the second floor in unit 35/C. Imp Power Ltd. is not a big corporate setup; it’s more of a practical workspace where we manage our daily tasks. The stairs are a bit steep, and the hallway can be a little dark if a bulb goes out, but it’s home to us. Being in Tardeo means there is always noise from the street, but you get used to it after a week. Our office has a few desks that have been here since the nineties, and they’re covered in ledgers and technical manuals. We handle power-related stuff, which means there’s always a conversation going on about transformers or voltage. Sometimes the air conditioner struggles with the Mumbai heat, so we keep the windows open a crack to let a breeze in, even if it brings in the city dust. Most of the staff takes the local train to get here, so mornings are always a bit of a rush as everyone trickles in from the station. We drink a lot of tea from the guy downstairs who brings it up in a wire carrier. It’s just a regular group of people doing a regular job, making sure the business stays afloat and the clients get what they asked for without too much fuss. It isn't glamorous, but it is honest work.
