Working out here in Hanuman Nagar, you see a lot of people trying to fix up their homes. Our place is on Wadari Pada Road in Kandivali East and we have been in the 6th block for a long time. The shelves are full of paint cans and sometimes they leak a little so there are colorful circles all over the floor. Dr Rajkumar Road is right there and the traffic noise is constant from morning until the sun goes down. My hands are usually stained with some shade of yellow or blue by lunchtime. People come in and show us a small piece of cloth or a picture on their phone and ask us to match it, which is harder than it looks. We have a big heavy ladder we use to reach the top shelves and it squeaks every time someone climbs it. The air always smells like chemicals and fresh paint which I don't even notice anymore. It gets pretty dusty with the road work going on outside so we have to cover the newer stock with plastic sheets. It is a basic shop with a small desk in the corner where I sit to write out the bills. There isn't much room to walk around when we get a fresh delivery of five-gallon buckets. We just keep things moving and try to help the locals get their projects finished without too much trouble.
