Hindustan Forge & Engineering Works

Down here at Carnac Bunder, things move at a different pace. Hindustan Forge & Engineering Works is tucked into the 23rd Cross in the 3rd Block. It’s number 404 if you’re looking for the door. The heat from the forge is something you never really get used to, especially during the humid months. We’ve got hammers and presses that have been around since my father’s time. They make a lot of noise, but they get the metal into the shape it needs to be. The area around us is always crowded with trucks trying to get to the docks. Sometimes we spend half the morning just waiting for a delivery to find its way through the narrow streets. The floor is always dusty, and everyone’s clothes end up stained with grease. We aren’t trying to be anything we’re not. We just do the forging work that needs doing. There’s a lot of heavy lifting involved. My back usually aches by the time five o’clock rolls around. We eat lunch together sitting on whatever stools are free. It’s a simple setup. We don’t have a big reception area or anyone in a suit. If you come by, you’ll find us in the back near the heat. We keep a ledger of the orders on a wooden desk that’s probably older than I am. It’s a living, and we’ve been doing it a long time now.
