Harshad Engineering Works

Our workshop, Harshad Engineering Works, is on the first floor of 356/364 Samuel Street in Vadgadi. This is right in the middle of Masjid Bunder, which is one of the busiest trading spots you’ll ever see. The street outside is always blocked with handcarts and trucks unloading bags and crates. To get to us, you have to head up the stairs of the old building. Once you’re inside, you’ll hear the sound of the lathes and the drills going. We do a lot of custom engineering jobs and repairs here. The space is a bit cramped because of all the heavy machinery and the pieces of raw material lying around. We’ve got benches covered in tools, shavings of metal on the floor, and a small corner where we keep our logbooks. It gets quite humid and the ventilation isn't the best, so we keep the big windows open to let some air in from Samuel Street. The noise from the market below never really stops, so we’ve just learned to work through it. Most of our day is spent at the machines, making sure everything is cut to the right spec. We aren't interested in making things look pretty; we just make sure they work the way they should. It’s honest, hard work and we’ve been part of this neighborhood for a long time, dealing with all the local traders.
