Harilal Velji Masalawala

You can find us at 156 Bhuleshwar Road, right near the Kabutar Khana in Kalbadevi. It's a very crowded part of town, always lots of noise and people moving about. Harilal Velji Masalawala has been a part of this street for a long time. The smell of spices is always in the air around here. Our shop isn't modern or anything. It’s got old wooden shelves and stone floors that have seen a lot of feet over the years. We spend our days measuring things out and talking to the regulars who have been coming to us forever. Being near the Kabutar Khana means there are always birds around, which adds to the chaos of the street. Kalbadevi is never quiet, even late in the evening. We open up early to get things ready before the rush starts. Sometimes the rain leaks a little near the front door during monsoon, so we put out a bucket. It's just an old building. We don't spend money on fancy decorations because we just focus on the stuff we keep in stock. The traffic on Bhuleshwar Road is a headache, but that’s just life in this part of the city. We know the other shopkeepers nearby and we all look out for each other. It’s a tight space with a lot of history packed into the walls. We just keep doing what we've always done. It’s a busy life but we are used to the noise by now.
