Gupta Kulfi Ice Cream has its home in Anjirwadi, over on Mascarenhas Road in Mumbai. It’s an old-school neighborhood and we fit right in. Our place at 103-1A/B is where all the magic with milk and sugar happens. We make kulfi the way it’s supposed to be made, without any of the fancy shortcuts the big brands use. The kitchen is always busy, especially when the weather starts getting hot. You can smell the cardamom and boiling milk from the street. It’s a small LLP, just a group of us working together to keep the freezers full. We don't have a corporate office with glass walls. We have a workspace that’s practical and a bit messy during the peak hours. Making ice cream is hard work because you’re always dealing with temperatures and timing. We’ve been here in the 400010 area for a long time. People around here know us by name, and we know them too. We don't spend time writing mission statements or planning big advertising campaigns. We just focus on getting the kulfi frozen and out to the carts and shops. It’s a sticky, cold, and rewarding job. Sometimes we have a kulfi ourselves at the end of a long day when the Mumbai humidity is too much. It’s just what we do, and we’ve been doing it a while now in this neighborhood.
