The bearing market in Malad West is usually a place where people are looking for hardware or machine parts, but we are tucked in there too. At Gulmarg Ice Creams, the main thing you notice is the constant hum of the big freezers keeping everything cold. It is quite a contrast to the heat outside on the street. I spend a lot of time checking the temperatures and making sure the lids are closed tight. The floor is usually a bit cold under your feet, even in the middle of summer. Being in the bearing market means our neighbors are mostly mechanics or shop owners selling metal parts. They often drop by when they need a break from the grease and the noise of the machinery. I keep a few chairs out front, but mostly people just stand around and talk for a bit. The signage is a little old now and the paint is peeling a bit at the edges, but everyone around here knows where we are. Malad West can be a very busy place to work, but once you go inside and hear the freezer motors, things feel a bit slower. I usually have to mop the floor twice a day because people bring in dust from the market stalls nearby. It is just how things are here, and we keep things running the best we can without much fuss or any big bells and whistles.
