Grain & Prouision Stores

Our shop, Grain & Prouision Stores, is located in Andheri West, specifically in Dhake Colony on JP Road. It’s a busy area and the noise from the street never really stops. We sell all the basic things people need for their homes like rice, different kinds of dals, cooking oils, and various snacks. The shop is usually a bit crowded with bags and containers. We try to keep things in their proper places, but when a new delivery comes in, everything gets a bit messy for a while. I’ve spent a lot of my life behind this counter. You get to know the people who live in the colony quite well. They come in for a small bag of salt or some biscuits for their kids. We don't have any of those fancy barcode scanners. We just know the prices and write everything down in a book. The light inside is a bit dim, but we can see what we’re doing. Sometimes we have to move heavy sacks of grain, which is hard on the back as I get older. We stay open until late because that’s when most people finish their work and come to buy their dinner supplies. There’s no big marketing plan here. We just open the shutters in the morning and wait for customers. It’s a simple way to make a living and it keeps us busy. We like being part of the local neighborhood here on JP Road.
