Down at 51 Manoj Industrial Estate on Gd Ambedkar Road, things are always moving. We are in Wadala, which is a bit of a maze if you aren't used to it. Golden Precision Products Pvt Ltd is tucked away in one of the blocks here. We make small, precise parts that most people probably never even see in their daily lives. It takes a lot of squinting and steady hands to get things right. The lighting in the workshop isn't always the best, so we’ve added a few extra lamps over the benches. It’s mostly just us and the machines. We’ve got a routine that starts with checking the calibrations every single morning. Some days the humidity in Mumbai makes the metal act funny, but we manage. People think precision work is all clean and clinical, but it's actually quite dusty and cluttered in here. There are bins of scrap metal everywhere you look. We try to keep things organized, but when orders pile up, the desks get messy fast. It’s a decent place to work, even if the stairs are a bit steep for carrying heavy boxes. Most of us take our lunch breaks together near the window where there's a bit of a breeze. We aren't doing anything world-changing, just making sure the parts we send out are the right size and shape. It’s steady work and it keeps us busy from Monday through Saturday every week.
