Gharib Nawaz

Gharib Nawaz is located right here in Mumbai at Underia Street. It’s a small place at Shop No 1, just behind Sharin Hall. If you know X Lane, you know it can get pretty crowded around here. We have been operating from this spot for a while now. The street is always loud with people moving around and bikes zooming past. Inside the shop, things are usually a bit tight because we have a lot to get through in a day. We open early in the morning and stay until the lights on the street go dim. It’s not the kind of place with air conditioning or fancy chairs for people to sit and wait. We just focus on the work that needs to get done. My family has seen this area change a lot over the years but our little corner under the building stays mostly the same. Sometimes the rain makes things difficult because the lane gets muddy, but we just carry on with our daily chores. People from the nearby buildings come by often. We don't do much talking or fancy talk, just basic business. Most of our neighbors know us well enough that we don't even have to say much when they stop by. It’s just how things are in this part of Mumbai. We keep the shop open and take things one day at a time. It's a simple life and a simple business for us.
