Working at No. 33 Khuraiyya Estate is always interesting because of the smells. If you've ever been around Vidya Nagari Marg, you know it’s a busy spot with a lot of movement. We handle a lot of leather here at Flair Leather Line Enterprises. It’s messy work sometimes, and my hands are usually stained by the end of the day from the dyes and the oils we use. We’ve got these old heavy-duty machines that have been with us for years. They make a specific thumping sound that you just get used to after a week. People think leather work is glamorous, but it’s mostly just heavy lifting and being very careful with the cutting knife. One wrong move and the whole hide is ruined, which is a real headache for everyone involved. We don't have a glossy catalog or a receptionist at a desk. Usually, whoever is closest to the door just answers it. We spend our time checking the grain and making sure the edges are smooth. The Khuraiyya Estate gets pretty crowded with trucks in the afternoon, so getting stuff out can be a bit of a gamble with the traffic. We just keep our heads down and do the work. It’s a small team, mostly people from around here. We know each other's families. It’s a practical way to spend the day. We aren't doing anything fancy, just making things out of leather that actually last a long time.
