Fatimas Goan Spice

Our place is situated in Malad West, over at the Swami Vivekanand Industri area. Being in an industrial zone means we get a lot of workers and office folks looking for something with a bit of flavor during their lunch break. We bring a bit of that Goan taste to this part of Mumbai. It’s not a polished restaurant with white tablecloths. It is more of a practical spot where the food is the main focus. We use the spices we grew up with, and the kitchen always smells like vinegar and dried chillies. It can get pretty cramped during the afternoon rush, but we manage to get the plates out. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, and the chairs are just the standard kind, but nobody seems to mind once they start eating. We spend our time sourcing the right ingredients and making sure the masalas are ground just right. It's a tough environment in the industrial estate, but we’ve built a little community here. We aren't trying to be the next big thing. We just want to serve the kind of food we like to eat ourselves. It's a simple life, but the smells from the kitchen make the long hours at the stove feel like home.
