Engineering Steel & Tools Company is based in the heart of the hardware market in Mumbai. We are located at A 10, Lehri House, on the 2nd Cross of Nagdevi Cross Lane in Masjid Bunder West. If you have ever walked through Nagdevi, you know it is incredibly crowded with people and handcarts pushing heavy loads of metal through the narrow gaps. Our shop is in an old building and we don't have much room at all. We have been here for a long time, selling different kinds of steel and specialized industrial tools. The shelves are very high and we have to use old wooden ladders to reach the top rows. It is a very noisy and dusty place, but that is just how it is in this part of the city. We get orders from small shops and big factories alike. Sometimes we spend a lot of time just figuring out how a delivery truck can get close enough to load the goods. We don't have a fancy showroom or anything like that. It is a place for hard work. Most of our customers are people we have known for many years. We still do a lot of our work by hand, though we use a computer for the basic billing now. The monsoon season makes things hard because the lanes can get quite wet, but we stay open regardless. We usually get our chai from the stall right downstairs. It’s just how things are in Nagdevi.
