Our place is in the old Raghuvanshi Mills Compound in Lower Parel, which is a bit of a maze if you don't know your way around. We are up on the second floor of Raghuvanshi Mansion, in Unit 2B. Senapati Bapat Marg is always loud and full of cars, but once you get inside the compound, it feels a bit different. Mumbai is a crowded city, and space is something we think about a lot here. We work on home projects, trying to make sense of how people live in such a busy environment. The office has big windows but the view is mostly of other old mill buildings and new glass towers. It’s a mix of the old Mumbai and the new. We aren't some big firm with a receptionist in a suit. We are usually just huddled around a table looking at samples or floor plans. The air conditioning struggles sometimes in the middle of the afternoon when the sun hits the mansion walls. We’ve been in this spot for a while, and we’ve seen the neighborhood change as more shops and offices move into the old industrial spaces. Getting lunch around here is easy because there are so many food stalls, but getting a parking spot is a nightmare. That’s just the reality of working in Lower Parel. We keep things simple and focus on the houses we are working on. There is always a lot to do before the day ends.
