We are located at 266 Innawadi in the Dharavi area. Anyone who knows this part of the city knows it’s a hub of activity. Veera Tanneries Pvt. Ltd. has been here for years. The smell of leather is something you notice as soon as you get close to our building. It’s a strong scent, but we don't even notice it anymore after working here so long. The workspace is very practical. We have large vats and areas for drying the hides. It’s messy work. Your clothes get stained and your hands get tough. That’s just part of the trade. The lanes around here are very narrow and always crowded with people, carts, and bikes. Delivering the raw materials can be a real challenge because of the tight space. We have a small office tucked into a corner where we keep the ledgers and records. It’s a bit dusty, but it serves its purpose. We don't use any fancy machinery; it’s mostly traditional methods that have been passed down. We work hard, usually starting very early in the morning before the sun gets too hot. By the end of the day, everyone is tired. We sit outside for a bit before heading home. We don't have a fancy brand name or expensive packaging. We just produce the leather and send it on to the people who need it. It’s a tough environment, but it’s our livelihood and we know it well.
