Tarana Leather Art

You can find our shop at Shop No. 4 in the New Parsi Chawl. We are right on the Sion-Bandra Link Road in the Kala Killa area of Dharavi. It is a very lively place to be, though it gets incredibly noisy with all the traffic on the link road. The shop itself is quite small, which is typical for the chawl, so we have to be very organized with how we store our leather goods. We focus on leather art, making things by hand that show the skill we have picked up over the years. Dharavi is famous for leather, and we are proud to be a small part of that tradition. Every day we are surrounded by the sounds of the neighborhood and the smell of treated hides. We have our tools laid out on a small workbench where we do all the cutting and embossing. It can get very hot inside during the summer, but we keep a small table fan running to stay cool. We get a lot of people passing by because of our location on the main road. Some are just curious, while others are looking for something specific. We don't have a fancy website or anything like that. We just rely on the things we make and the fact that we are easy to find here in Kala Killa. It is a busy, cramped, and honest way to make a living, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
