Sana Leather

We have been running Sana Leather for a good while now. We are located at No. 276/56 on the Kala Killa Sion Bandra Link Road. It is a busy part of Dharavi, and we are usually working inside the Jai Hind Society area, which is right near the Citizen Hotel. If you know the Kala Killa area, you know it is always loud and there is always something going on. We spend our days mostly handling different kinds of leather. The shop address is 43/85, and it’s a bit cramped with all the materials we keep in there. My brother and I started this because we knew the trade from our father. We don't have any fancy machines, just the old ones that still work fine. The smell of the hides is quite strong in the mornings when we first open the doors. We sit on small stools and do the cutting and the stitching. Sometimes the traffic on the link road gets so backed up you can hear the horns all day long. We just get used to it. We aren't trying to be some big corporate brand or anything. We just make the items and sell them to people who come by or order a batch. It gets very hot in the summer under the tin roof, so we drink a lot of cold water and keep the fan going. It’s just how things are here in Dharavi. We keep our heads down and work.
