We’ve been operating out of No. 92/b on the Sion-Dharavi Link Road for quite some time now. It’s a busy stretch of road near Kala Qilla and the traffic noise is just something we live with every day. The shop itself isn’t anything fancy, which is why we call it the Leather Hut. It’s a smallish space and honestly, it gets pretty cramped when we have a lot of stock coming in. We keep heaps of different leather pieces all over the place. Sometimes you have to step over a roll of hide just to get to the back desk. It gets hot in the afternoons because the sun hits the front of the building, but we have a couple of fans that keep the air moving. My cousin usually sits near the door and keeps an eye on things while I’m busy in the back. We don't have a big marketing team or a glossy brochure to show you. It’s just us here, surrounded by the smell of leather and some old tools. Most of the people who come in are locals or folks who have heard about us from their neighbors. The street outside is always dusty with the construction and the trucks going past, so we’re constantly wiping down the shelves. It’s just a normal, everyday shop where we do our work and try to keep things organized despite the constant mess of leather scraps on the floor.
