Dharavi Leather

Our place, Dharavi Leather, is tucked into Saibaba Nagar in Gopinath Colony. The exact spot is Gn Mca- 1/3, right near that 90 Feet Road. If you know Dharavi, you know it’s always busy and there’s always something going on in the streets. We work with leather all day, so the smell is quite strong when you first walk inside. You get used to it after a while though. It’s a small shop, but we pack a lot into it. We have tools scattered around on the workbenches. It’s not the cleanest place in the world, but it’s where we actually make things. The 90 Feet Road is always packed with traffic, so it can be a bit noisy during the day. We’ve been at this location for a while now. Most people around here know us as the leather guys in Gopinath Colony. We don't have a website or anything like that, we just rely on people stopping by the door. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait a bit, but we usually just keep working by the window light. It's a simple operation. We buy the hides, cut them up, and see what we can make. It’s hard on the hands, but it’s what we know how to do. We’re just regular folks trying to run a shop in a very busy part of the city. We have coffee together in the mornings before we start.
