R. S. Leather Art

If you are looking for R. S. Leather Art, you have to head down Sharaft Chawl Road No. A/250. We are right near the Noorulhuda Masjid in the Social Nagar part of Dharavi. It’s a busy place with a lot of noise and people moving about on 90 Feet Road. Our workshop is right in the thick of it. You can usually smell the leather before you even see the door. We spend our days cutting, stitching, and finishing different leather goods. It’s messy work. There are scraps of leather on the floor and tools scattered across the benches. We don't have a showroom with bright lights. Most of the work happens right there in the open. The guys have been doing this for years, so their hands are pretty rough from the needles and the leather. We get a lot of visitors because we are so close to the masjid. Sometimes people just stop by to see what we are making. The space is tight, like most places in Dharavi, but we make it work. We have a routine that hasn't changed much since we started. We aren't trying to be a big brand. We just want to make stuff that people can actually use. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit outside for a bit until it comes back. It’s just part of life here on Dharavi Road. We stay busy and that’s enough for us.
