Leather World

Our shop is B-1/1 on the Sion-Bandra Link Road, specifically in the Kala Killa area of Babu Jagjivan Nagar. Being in Dharavi, you’re never alone; there’s always someone walking by or a delivery truck stopping. Leather World is basically just a small room packed with supplies. We keep rolls of leather stacked up against the back wall. Sometimes it’s hard to move around when a new shipment comes in. We’ve been at this location for years. The window is small, so we rely on the overhead lights to see what we’re doing. We spend hours hunched over our workbenches. It’s tough on the back, but we don’t think about it much. We know the neighbors well, and we often share a quick meal together during the break. The air is thick with the scent of raw materials. It’s a smell you never really lose. We don’t have a website or anything like that. We just rely on how the things we make actually hold up over time. People know where to find us if they need something sturdy. It’s a practical life. We start when the sun comes up and we don’t stop until the tasks for the day are finished. It’s not always easy, but it’s what we do. It feels right to be part of the community here and just keep our heads down and work.
