We’ve been tucked away here at 69 Kumbharwada Durgadevi Street for quite some time now. Being near the Opera House means there is never a quiet moment outside our door. At Danish Engineers & Fabricators, the day usually starts with the sound of the shutters rolling up and the smell of grease and cold metal. It’s a busy workshop, and honestly, it’s often a bit of a mess with scraps of iron and steel lying around the floor. We don’t have a fancy reception area or anyone to greet you with a polished smile. It’s just us, usually with dirty hands, working on whatever project is on the bench that day. The fans overhead try to move the heavy air around, but when the welding starts, it gets pretty warm in here. Most of our neighbors are doing similar work, so the whole street has this constant rhythm of hammering and grinding. We spend a lot of time measuring things twice and still having to trim a bit off the edges. It’s just the way fabrication goes. Some days the tea guy forgets our order, and other days the rain leaks a little near the back window, but we just keep at it. We’ve got a routine that works for us, and we don’t see much reason to change how we do things after all these years of being in this same spot in the city.
