The smell of baking usually fills up our little corner at G-42 in Sakinaka. We are right in the middle of Andheri West, which means there is never a quiet moment outside. Cookie Man is a small operation where we spend most of our time hovering over ovens and trays. It’s a lot of measuring flour and making sure the chocolate chips are distributed properly. We see a lot of people coming in off the street because they smelled the cookies from the sidewalk. Sakinaka is always jammed with cars and people, so our shop is a bit of a break from all that chaos. We don’t have much space for people to sit, it’s mostly just a counter and the baking area in the back. The heat from the ovens makes the shop warm, even on days when it’s raining outside. We go through a lot of sugar and butter every week, and the delivery trucks are always stopping by to drop off more supplies. It’s a simple routine of mixing, baking, and packing. Sometimes we burn a batch and have to start all over, which is just how it goes when you’re doing it by hand. We’ve been here at G-42 for a good while, and we’ve gotten to know the regular faces who stop by after work. It’s nice to have a job that smells like vanilla and sugar every single morning.
