Working out of Flat 405 in the Sea Green Building here in Andheri West is pretty interesting. It is not a shop on the main road, just a regular residential place where we make our stuff. We started Chocofunk because we liked messing around with cocoa and sugar in our own kitchen. Now the dining table is almost always full of trays and packing materials. It gets pretty busy in here, especially when it is someone’s birthday or a big holiday is coming up. We do not have a big staff, it is just a few of us doing everything. We spend a lot of time tempering chocolate and trying not to make too much of a mess on the floor, though that happens anyway. The lift in Sea Green is sometimes very slow, so we end up waiting a long time for the delivery boys to arrive. Living and working in the same flat has its ups and downs. The smell of chocolate is in the curtains and everywhere else. It is a lot better than most office jobs, I guess. We use the fridge way more than a normal family would. Andheri is so loud outside, but inside the flat, it is just us working quietly. We do not have a big fancy sign outside the building. Most people find us through friends or by just knowing we are here in the apartment. It started small and stayed that way. We just keep making batches and packing them into boxes.
