At Canbank Mutual Fund, things are usually pretty quiet until the month-end rolls around. Then everyone is rushing to get the paperwork sorted before the deadline. It’s a lot of numbers and forms, to be honest. We spend most of our time checking details and making sure the files are in the right place. It’s the kind of work that requires a lot of focus, so there isn’t much chatting during the main hours. We’ve got a small team here. Most of us have been working with money and records for a long time. It’s steady work and we like it that way. You won’t find any bean bags or ping pong tables in our office. It’s just desks, chairs, and a lot of filing cabinets that are starting to show their age. Sometimes the printer jams and we all have to take a break while someone fixes it. We drink a lot of tea to stay sharp throughout the afternoon. It’s not the most exciting thing in the world, but it’s important work for the people who trust us. We don't really do much advertising or anything like that. People just know where we are. We show up at nine, do the work, and leave when the job is finished. It’s a very traditional way of doing things, I suppose. But it works for us and it keeps everything moving along nicely for everyone involved.
