Bombay Engineering Works

Bombay Engineering Works is located at 116, Gambhir Ind. Estate, just off Aarey Road in Goregaon East. It’s a busy little corner of the world. Aarey Road is famous for its trees, but once you turn into the Gambhir Industrial Estate, it’s all business and concrete. Our unit is number 116, and it’s packed tight with machines and workbenches. We don't have much room to spare, so everything has its specific place. The noise from the traffic on Aarey Road blends in with the sounds of our own tools. We’ve been in Goregaon for a long time, back before there were so many high-rises around us. The building has those high ceilings that help a bit with the Mumbai heat, but it still gets pretty stuffy in May. We have a few old fans that wobble when they're on high speed. Our work is mostly about metal and precision, though we don't talk about it in any special way. We just get the jobs done as they come in. Most of our day is spent standing at the benches or checking the measurements on the parts we’ve finished. When it rains, we have to watch out for leaks in the roof, but we’ve patched them up pretty well over the years. It’s a gritty, honest kind of place to spend your day. We like it fine enough and the neighbors are good.
