Bawa Suites, Khar

Working at Bawa Suites on Linking Road means there is never a quiet moment. If you know Khar West, you know how crazy the traffic and the shopping crowds get. Our building is right at number 352, and we spend most of our day watching people walk by with shopping bags. The lobby is usually full of suitcases and people asking for directions to the nearest train station. It’s a pretty straightforward place to work. We spend a lot of time checking the rooms and making sure the linens are fresh. Mumbai humidity doesn't help much with the maintenance, so we are always painting something or fixing a leak somewhere. We don't have a huge team, just a bunch of us who have been here a few years. Sometimes the elevator acts up and we have to carry bags up the stairs, which isn’t great, but we manage. In the evenings, the lights on Linking Road come on and it looks quite nice from the upper floors. We get a lot of travelers who are just here for a night or two for work. It's not a luxury palace, just a solid building in a very busy part of town. The rain in July usually makes things interesting when guests are trying to get into taxis without getting soaked. We just keep the umbrellas ready and keep going. It is a lot of work but it is just what we do every day.
