Bakewell is our little spot in Bandra East. We are located at Gala No 3/6 in the Backward Sarvoday area. It’s more of a workspace than a shop where people walk in all the time. We spend most of our hours baking and getting things ready. The smell of flour and yeast is always around. It’s a small gala, so we have to be very careful with how we use the space. We’ve got our ovens and mixing tables all squeezed in. Bandra East is a busy part of the city, and being in Sarvoday means there’s always noise from the street. We don't mind it much. We start our work very early, often before the sun is even up, so we can get everything done. It’s physically tiring work, standing on your feet all day and lifting heavy sacks. We don't have a fancy marketing plan, we just make what we know how to make. Sometimes things don't come out perfect, but we try again. We’ve been in this gala for a few years and know the other workers nearby. We share a tea sometimes when things quiet down. It’s a humble place, just a few people working hard to keep the ovens going. We like the routine of it all. It’s just us doing what we know best in our corner of the city. We keep the machines running and the floors swept.
