Babulnath General Store

Babulnath General Store is tucked away in Bawan Khani. It’s the kind of place where the shelves are packed from the floor to the ceiling. We try to keep everything someone might need in a hurry, like soap, snacks, or some loose sugar. The space is tight, so you have to be careful not to knock anything over when you walk in. I spend most of my day sitting on the wooden stool near the cash box. There’s no fancy computer system here, just a notebook where I write things down sometimes. The neighborhood is quiet in the afternoons, but gets lively in the evenings when people are coming home from work. They stop by for a loaf of bread or maybe some matches. I know most of the customers by name because they’ve been coming here since I took over the place. Sometimes the deliveries are late and the shop looks a bit empty, but we make do. We don’t have a big staff, just me and occasionally my nephew helps out when he’s not at school. It’s not a glamorous job, dusting the cans and counting the change, but it’s a living. We don’t bother with flyers or sales. If people need something, they know where Bawan Khani is and they know we’re open. It’s just a small shop for the local folks to get their daily supplies without any trouble. We keep it simple and stay here until the sun goes down and the street gets dark.
