ARCHITECT RAJESH PATEL

We are over at 513, Tulsiani Chambers. Architect Rajesh Patel is the name on the door. It’s a standard office space where we spend most of our time staring at blueprints or arguing about where a wall should go. Most mornings start with tea from the stall downstairs on Free Press Journal Marg before we settle into work. People come in looking for help with their buildings or house plans, and we just sit down and try to figure it out with them. Some days are slow, others we are running around trying to meet deadlines that seemed far away last week. We’ve been in this spot in Nariman Point for a good bit now. The windows don’t offer much of a view, but the location is handy for getting around this part of town. We don’t have a big reception area or anyone to open the door, so you just walk in. Usually, someone is on the phone or sketching something out. The office stays a bit cluttered with rolls of paper, but that is just how it is. It’s just us doing what we do. It gets noisy when the traffic picks up outside, but you get used to it after a few years. We keep things pretty simple. If you need a drawing or a plan, that is what we handle every day. Sometimes the printer acts up right when we need it most. We just try to get the work done and keep moving along without much fuss.
