Our little spot on Napean Sea Road isn't very big, but it stays busy enough. The freezers hum all day long, which is a sound you just get used to after a week of working here. Most days, it’s about making sure the scoops are even and the floor stays clean, which is hard when kids come in with sticky hands. We see a lot of people walking their dogs or just heading home after work. The light in the shop is a bit bright, but it helps us see what we’re doing when we’re digging into the tubs. Sometimes we run out of the popular stuff faster than we expect, and then we have to explain that to the regulars who come looking for it. It gets a bit cramped when more than five people stand at the counter at once. We don't have much of a lobby, so people often stand outside on the sidewalk while they eat. The sea breeze comes up the road sometimes, which is nice when the humidity is high. It’s a pretty simple setup. We just keep the temperature right and make sure the spoons are stocked. There isn't much to say besides that. We open the shutters in the morning, wipe down the glass, and wait for the first person to walk through the door. It's a steady rhythm that hasn't changed much over the years. We just keep the lights on and the ice cream cold for everyone.
