You will find Anuj General Stores over in Goregaon West, specifically in the Unnat Nagar area of Prem Nagar. We are on Road N, not too far from the Siddhesh Hotel. Mumbai is always moving fast, and this neighborhood is no different. The shop is small and squeezed between two other buildings. We have everything from toothpaste to snacks packed into every inch of space. When the monsoon hits, we have to put up plastic sheets to keep the rain from coming inside. It gets quite humid, so the ceiling fan stays on all day. We serve a lot of the people who live in the JVPD Scheme and the nearby apartments. Most customers are in a hurry, so we try to find what they need quickly. I've been working here since I was much younger. The shelves are made of plywood and they are starting to sag a bit under the weight of the detergent bottles. We don't have a big fancy entrance, just a shutter that we pull up every morning at seven. Sometimes we chat with the delivery boys while they drop off the crates of bread. It’s a busy life but we like being here. People know they can find the basics here without any fuss. We don't use any modern apps, just a simple notebook to keep track of what we owe the wholesalers.
