Amul

This shop is tucked away in the Legend Apartment building in Santacruz East. We’ve been at Shop 15 for a while. It’s not a very big space, mostly just enough for the fridges and a small counter where we sit. Living and working in Santacruz means there is always something going on outside. The street can get a bit narrow with all the parked bikes, especially near St A. We open up pretty early because the dairy supplies come in before the sun is really up. You can hear the crates rattling on the pavement. Usually, it's just the locals from the apartments upstairs who come by for their daily things. They know where everything is kept, so they don't even have to ask most of the time. The light inside is a bit bright, those long tube lights, but it helps us see the labels clearly. On hot days, everyone wants to stand near the open freezer for a second too long. We don’t say anything about it. It’s hot for everyone. The tile floor has a few cracks near the door from years of people walking in and out. It’s a busy little corner of the world. We don’t really do much besides keep the stock ready and wait for the next person to walk through the door. Amul products are what we have, and that keeps us busy enough throughout the day. It gets very quiet mid-afternoon, which is when we finally get a chance to sit down and have some lunch.
