Amul Ice Cream Parlour

This shop on Khar West Main Road is pretty straightforward. We have been sitting at 4 C for a while now, right where the foot traffic is heaviest. It’s mostly just a few of us working shifts to keep the doors open from morning until late at night. The freezers take up most of the space, so there isn't much room for anything else. Checking the inventory and making sure the milk and butter haven't run low is a constant job. In the summer, the air conditioning struggles to keep up with the heat coming in through the front door, so it gets a bit stuffy. We aren't trying to be the most modern place on the block. The paint is peeling a little in the corners and the tiles are a bit worn down from all the boots and sandals walking over them. Students come in after school in big groups, usually looking for the cheapest thing we have in the freezer. It gets loud when they all arrive at once. Sometimes the delivery guys have trouble finding a place to park on the main road, which slows everything down. We just do our best to keep the stock full. It’s a basic job, but we like being part of the daily routine for people in Khar. There's no fancy music or decorations, just the sound of the fridge fans and people asking for their change while the traffic goes by.
