Amul Ice Cream Parlour

The freezers make a constant humming sound that you stop noticing after you have worked here for an hour or two. We are right there at the CTM Cross Road in Borivali West, so there is always someone crossing the street or waiting for a bus nearby. Most of the day is spent wiping down the glass tops of the dipping cabinets because kids are always putting their hands on them to see the flavors. We have a few chairs outside, but they usually get taken pretty quickly when the sun goes down and it gets a bit cooler. It is a small shop, really. We spend a lot of time making sure the temperature stays right so nothing melts when the power flickers, which happens sometimes. We keep a flashlight behind the counter just in case. It is nice when the schools let out because the whole place fills up with noise and energy for about thirty minutes. We do not do anything fancy with the presentation, we just scoop the ice cream into a cup or a cone and hand it over. Sometimes we run out of the popular flavors on a Saturday night and have to tell people to try something else. We just try to keep the place clean and keep the lights on for anyone looking for something cold. Most people just want a quick snack while they walk to the station, and we are happy to be here for that.
