Aditi Art is tucked away in Room No 9 at Mhatre Wadi in Dadar West. It’s a bit of a walk from the main road, but we are quite near the Kohinoor Technical Institute, which is a good landmark. Being in a wadi means it’s a bit quieter than the main Dadar market, though you still hear the neighborhood sounds. The room is small, so we have to be very careful about where we put things. Every bit of wall space is used for something. It’s a bit cramped when more than two people are inside, but we make it work. We usually have the window open to let some air in, even if it brings a bit of dust. The floor is old stone and stays relatively cool. We spend our days surrounded by materials and half-finished pieces. It’s not a fancy gallery or anything like that. It’s a workspace first and foremost. Sometimes people wander in thinking it’s a different shop because the entrance is a bit hidden behind a tree, but we just point them the right way. We’ve been here for a long time, so we know all the other shopkeepers around B S Cross. We like the pace here. It’s steady and we don’t feel the need to rush things just to look busy. We just focus on the art and the orders we have to finish for the week. It’s a quiet life in a busy city.
