You can find us down on Dharavi Road at the Iti Layout, number 246. It is a noisy area with a lot of workshops and traffic around, but we like the energy of the place. We’ve been working on engines and various mechanical parts for quite a few years now. The floor is usually covered in some kind of grease or metal shavings, but that is just part of being a real engineering shop. Most days, it is just us and our tools, trying to fix what’s broken or put together something new for a customer. We don't have a fancy waiting room with chairs or a secretary answering the phones. Usually, if the phone rings, one of us just wipes our hands on a dirty rag and picks it up ourselves. It’s practical, hands-on work. Sometimes a job takes longer than we thought because a part is rusted shut or the design is a bit tricky, but we stay until it’s finally sorted out. People in the area know us well by now. They bring in all sorts of mechanical problems, some easy and some very frustrating. We don’t talk big or use complicated words; we just look at the machine and see what can be done. It’s a bit cramped with all the heavy equipment, but we know where everything is kept. Living and working around Dharavi Road means you learn how to be resourceful. We use what we have and make sure the finished job is solid enough to last.
