United Handicrafts is based at E-07 on Dehria Street. It’s a busy little spot and we’ve been here for quite some time now. The workspace is usually filled with bits of wood, metal, and fabric, depending on what we’re putting together that week. It’s definitely not a clean or organized environment. There are tools everywhere and the floor is always covered in something. We don’t have a fancy showroom, so if you come by, you’re seeing the actual work being done right there. It’s loud, it’s a bit messy, and there’s always something that needs fixing. We have a small group of workers who have been with us for a long time. They know where everything is, even if it looks like a disaster to someone else. We don’t follow a strict corporate schedule. If a job needs to get done, we stay late, and if it’s slow, we might close up a bit early to go home. We don’t have a website with a lot of professional photos or anything. We just rely on the work itself and the people who know us on the street. It’s a very hands-on way to make a living. We’ve had some good years and some tough ones in this shop, but we’re still here doing what we know how to do. It’s just how things are on Dehria Street every single day.
