Ahmed Handicrafts

Our shop is on Rampur Road, not too far from the Wonder Land park. You can see the big signs for the park from our front step. It’s a busy road with a lot of noise from the cars and buses going by. We’ve been here for a good while now. The building is old and the roof leaks a little when it rains hard, but it’s home to us. We make all kinds of handicrafts. It’s mostly just me and a couple of my cousins. We grew up watching our fathers do this and we just naturally took it up. There wasn't much of a choice, really, but we like it well enough. We don't use big industrial machines. It’s mostly small tools and a lot of patience. Sometimes a piece takes us three days and sometimes it takes a week. We don't hurry. If you hurry, you make mistakes and we don't like wasting material. The workshop is always a bit of a mess with scraps and tools lying around. We tried to organize it once but it didn't last more than two days. We know where everything is, and that’s what matters. We just want to keep the shop running and keep making things that look decent. We aren't looking to get rich. We just like the work and the people we meet along Rampur Road. It’s a simple business. We hope to stay here for many more years.
