About Overseas Handicrafts – Art & Craft in Moradabad
We operate out of Mahajan House over in Civil Lines. It is a familiar area, right near the Tubewell Colony. Being in an older building gives Overseas Handicrafts a different feel than a modern office block. There is a lot of character in the walls, though the plumbing acts up sometimes. We have rooms filled with all sorts of handcrafted pieces. Some are sitting on shelves, others are wrapped in bubble wrap on the floor. It is a bit of a maze inside. We try to keep it organized, but when a new shipment comes in from the artisans, things get a bit chaotic for a few days. We sit around the big table in the main room to sort through everything. It’s a lot of manual work, checking each item one by one. The light coming through the windows in the afternoon is nice, but it can get quite hot in the summer months. We just turn on the fans and keep going. Most people who work here live close by, so we often walk to work. We’ve seen the neighborhood change over the years, but Mahajan House stays pretty much the same. It is a quiet place for the most part, except for when we are loading up a van. We don't do anything fancy with the space. It’s just where we store the goods and handle the daily tasks. It is a slow and steady process that keeps us occupied.
