About G. N. Handicrafts – Art & Craft in Moradabad
My family has been at Braj Raj Bhawan in Civil Lines for a while now. It's a quiet area mostly, but we keep busy with the handicraft work. People often ask how we started, but there isn't really a big story to it. We just started making things because that is what we knew how to do. The workshop gets dusty and it’s a bit cramped sometimes when a lot of orders come in at once. We handle most of the wood and metal ourselves. It is hard work on the hands. Sometimes the weather makes the materials act up, especially when it gets humid here. You have to wait for things to dry properly before moving to the next step. We don't have a big fancy office or anything like that. Just the workspace where the tools are kept. Most days it's just the sound of sanding or hammers going. We try to get things out the door as they finish. If you walk by Civil Lines, you might see us loading up a truck or just sitting outside for a tea break when the sun goes down. It’s a simple way to make a living. We don't do much advertising. Usually, people just find us through word of mouth or they see the sign near the Bhawan. We keep our tools sharp and just keep at it day after day. It's what we do. Nothing more to it than that really.
