Shiv Hair Salon

Shiv Hair Salon is located right on Roorkee Road in the Dorli Village area of Meerut. It’s a busy spot because of the traffic coming through this part of town. I usually start the day early, sweeping the floor and getting the tools ready on the counter. The chairs have been here a while but they are comfortable enough for someone getting a quick trim. People from the village often stop by when they have a bit of free time in the evening. You can hear the bikes and trucks passing by outside while we work. It gets quite loud sometimes but we are used to it by now. The mirrors are old and have a few marks, but they do the job. We keep a few newspapers around for those waiting their turn. Most of the guys coming in just want a simple cut so they can get back to their work or home. There is no fancy music playing here, just the sound of scissors and the occasional radio news. We see a lot of the same faces every month. It’s just a small place with a fan that hums throughout the day. The light coming in from the front door is usually enough until the sun goes down. Running a shop like this in Meerut means you get to know everyone's stories after a while. We just keep things moving and try to finish before the power goes out in the afternoon.
