Muskhan Hair Saloon

The shop is right here in Kidwan Nagar. We open up pretty early in the morning because people in Meerut like to get things done before the heat starts or before they head to work. It’s not a very big place, just Muskhan Hair Saloon, but we have enough room for a couple of chairs and a bench where people wait. Usually, the radio is playing something low in the background, mostly old songs or the news. We spend a lot of time sweeping up hair because that’s just how it is when you’re cutting all day. The mirrors are old but they stay clean because I wipe them down every single morning before anyone comes in. Most of the folks who come here live right around the corner or a few streets over in the 250001 area. We don’t do anything too fancy, just the standard cuts and shaves that people ask for. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded on Sundays and people have to wait outside on the step. I’ve been working here a long time now and I know most of the faces that walk through the door. It’s a simple life in Kidwan Nagar. We keep the towels clean and the scissors sharp. There’s not much else to say about it. We just do the work, talk about the weather or whatever is happening in Meerut that day, and close up when it gets dark. It is just a regular shop for regular people.
