Jashipur (Junior) College

This little junior college is out here in Jashipur, which is part of the Mayurbhanj district. It is a pretty quiet place compared to the colleges in the big cities. The college building is surrounded by some trees and greenery, and it feels quite peaceful most of the time during the day. We don't have hundreds of staff members working here, just a small group of us who handle everything from the teaching to the administration work. The rooms are very basic with simple desks and blackboards. We don’t have much in the way of high-tech gadgets or computers, so it is mostly just teachers talking and using chalk. Most of the students walk or cycle here from the small villages nearby. It is a simple kind of life for everyone involved. We start the classes early in the morning before the sun gets too hot. During the rainy season, the courtyard out front gets a bit muddy, but we just put down some old bricks so people can walk across. We know almost every student by their first name because the community around here is quite small. There is no big marketing team at this college; word just spreads from one family to another over time. We spend our days making sure the kids show up for their classes and finish their assignments. The office is just a small room with a couple of cupboards and an old table where we keep the records.
