Priya Driving School

Our office is up on the second floor of the Venkatramana Building. It is right in the middle of Temple Square on Car Street here in Mangalore. This area is always buzzing, especially during festival times when the big chariots are out and the whole street is packed. We’ve been teaching people how to drive around these narrow streets for a long time now. It’s not a big fancy office, just a room with some wooden benches and some old posters about road signs on the walls that have faded over the years. Most of the time I’m out in the car with a student, so the office stays empty and quiet during the day. We have a couple of old hatchbacks we use for the lessons because they are easier for beginners to handle in the tight traffic. Driving in Mangalore can be tricky with the steep hills and the heavy rain we get, so we spend a lot of time on clutch control. People come here from all over the city, but mostly it's just local neighbors. I handle the paperwork for the licenses too, which takes up a lot of my late evenings. Sometimes the stairs up to the second floor feel a bit steep after a long day of work. The building is old but it has a good view of the street below. We don't really do any big advertising, people just see our cars around or hear about us from their cousins. It’s a decent living and we meet a lot of different people every single week.
