If you're driving through Mulky, you’ll find us at Umarang House in Karnad. We are right by the main highway, which is why we decided to name the place that. It’s a basic, no-frills place for travelers to stop and rest their heads for a bit. We don’t have any of the bells and whistles of those big hotels you find in the middle of the city. It’s just a solid, old building with rooms for people who are tired from being on the road all day. We see a lot of truck drivers and families traveling between Mangalore and the north. The noise from the highway is always there in the background, but you honestly get used to it after a while. We keep the rooms as clean as we possibly can, though the salt air from being so near the coast sometimes makes the building age a bit faster than we like. We don't have a big fancy lobby with a fountain, just a small desk where you can check in and get your key. It’s a family-run kind of thing, so you might see our kids running around or someone doing laundry out in the back area. It’s not a place for a luxury vacation, but it’s a good, honest spot to get some sleep and a simple meal before you hit the road again. We’ve been here in Karnad for a long time, and we like being part of the local community. It's a busy life.
