Over at House No. 1 in Parakhurd, that’s where Ramrani Farmer Producer Company Limited is based. Ram Milan lives there and he keeps an eye on everything for the group. Maharajganj is our main area. We are a bunch of farmers who decided it was better to work as a team. It’s not a fancy office, just a house where we meet up to discuss the seeds and the fertilizers. Parakhurd is a small place so everyone knows everyone else. We don’t have a website or anything like that. If you need us, you just walk up to the door. We spend a lot of time worrying about the monsoon and whether the prices will stay up. It’s a struggle every year to make ends meet. Being a farmer producer company helps us buy things in bulk which saves a little bit of money for everyone involved. Ram Milan handles the paperwork which is a headache but someone has to do it. The kids play outside while we talk about the harvest. It’s a real community effort here. We don’t use big words or have meetings in boardrooms. We just sit on the porch and figure things out. It’s slow work but it’s honest. We just hope to keep the farm going for the next generation without too much trouble from the banks or the weather. That is the only thing that matters to us.
