Venkateswara Salon

You can find us at No 416 in the Nagaraj Building. We are on Mamsapuram Road in Tirumangalam. The shop is quite easy to spot because it’s near the Government Higher Secondary School. Because of the school, we get a lot of young boys coming in, especially when the teachers start complaining about their hair being too long. Madurai is very hot, so we try to keep the shop as cool as possible with a couple of fans that we have. It’s a basic setup in an old building. The chairs are a bit stiff, and the floor is just plain cement that we sweep several times a day. Venkateswara Salon has been a part of this street for a long time now. We open early in the morning before the sun gets too high and unbearable. Sometimes the old men from the village sit outside under the shade of the building and talk for hours about nothing in particular. We don’t have any fancy signs or neon lights to attract people. It’s just a place where you can get a shave for a fair price without waiting too long. We use the same old techniques we learned years ago. Sometimes we have to wait for the water tanker to come if the tap runs dry, but we manage. Life moves at its own pace here. We aren't trying to be the most modern shop in Madurai, just a reliable one for the people living near Mamsapuram Road.
